Corey Mason grabs Late Model Championship at Riverside

GROVETON, NH 9/18/21- Groveton’s Corey Mason capped off a great season at Riverside Speedway and Adventure Park winning the season ending championship in the Creative Counters Late Model division. Rookie driver Jason Kenison got the lead on lap three from Groveton’s Chris Caron and then went wheel to wheel with Floyd Bennett JR.s #90 for five laps. After Kenison cleared Bennett he opened up a five car length advantage over Jamie Swallow JR. The only caution of the race flew at lap #27 for Emily Swallow’s spin on the front stretch. When racing resumed, Kenison had to hold off Jamie Swallow JR. and Corey Mason. As the laps ticked away Mason was able to get around Swallow for second but Jason Kenison was too strong on this night as he held off Corey Mason to grab his first career late model victory. Corey Mason ended the night in second with Brother Brian Mason coming from last to finish in third place. The champagne flowed in victory lane as Corey Mason celebrated winning the championship with his team. In the Claudette and Deans place DareDevils Granby, Vermont's Windsor Hodgdon grabbed the lead early and held on to score the win in his #23 machine. Point leader Revin Evan Gilbert from Gorham N.H. was right there in second but couldn't get around Hodgdon and settled for second with Groveton’s Connor Charbonneau picking up the third spot. The Bonestock 6& 8 Cylinders had a great battle in their main event as Floyd Bennett JR. and Maine’s Jamie Heath went door to door over the last fifteen laps to decide the winner. Heath came up a little short in the end as Floyd Bennett JR. grabbed the win with Heath finishing in second and 2020 6&8 cylinder Bonestock champion Mike Sherburne  getting third. The M.H. Humphrey Lil Rascals Dwarf cars had a great field of cars this week. There was side by side racing throughout the field. Groveton’s
Paxton Call was the early leader but lost the lead to Tom Harwood on lap 11. Harwood then had to fend off a hard charging Justin Harris and Cody Hodgdon with Harwood picking up the win. Harris settled for second and Cody Hodgdon was third in his #31. The EKeys4Cars Formula Fours saw Morrisville Vermont's Ryan Heuser getting out front early and grabbing the win. Brian Putney came from mid pack and put the chase on Heuser but couldn't get close enough to mount a challenge and had to settle for the second spot. Morrisville Vermont's Mekaylah Bowen had a great side by side battle with Derby Vermont's Brendan Rhodes for eight laps with Bowen ending the night with a fine third place finish. The R.N. Craft Street Stocks had some new faces in the field this week as several drivers from the now closed Beech Ridge Speedway in Maine came to Riverside . Maine’s Todd Libby made it four in a row as he got to the front but Libby had to do battle with 2013 outlaw champion Chan Davis of Whitefield N.H. Davis dusted off the #57 after eight years and put some tires on it and drove to a fine second place in his first race in eight years. Mike Humphrey brought his #39 from the rear to grab a third place finish. This coming Saturday is the final point race at Riverside for the R.N. Craft street stocks, The Claudette and Deans place DareDevils, the EKeys4Cars Formula Fours and the Bad Boy Mowers of Morrisville along with the M.H. Humphrey Lil Rascals dwarf cars. Post time 6P.M.
